Team Ireland consists of the best amateur players in the country (North and South) at various games who have been chosen to represent Ireland at various international events throughout the year. Members of Team Ireland receive various support packages including industry standard training in their game and other supports to help them bring their game to the next level of competition.
The biggest highlight of the Team Ireland calendar, is the annual, national qualifier for the eSport World championship by the International eSports Federation (IeSF). Every year, the IeSF chooses a set of games which will be played at the eSport World Championships. eSport Ireland as well as all the other member nations of the IeSF, organize each national qualifiers. The winners of which can take part in the IeSF World Championship competing for National pride and over $50,000 in prize money.
With the journey, entry fees and the accomodation for the eSport World Championship being fully payed for by eSport Ireland, the qualifier represents a very lucrative opportunity for the participants, which makes this tournament the most prestigeous of tournaments in the Irish eSport scene, every year. The winning team of the grand finals can look forward to travelling to the IeSF 2016 World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. The International eSports Federation covers the cost of accomodation including breakfast. eSport Ireland also covers the costs of the flights for the entire player-team.
Obviously not everyone can be chosen as a Team Ireland member. The players who stand the best chance are the players and teams who have shown consistant results in eSI sanctioned events and online qualifers in addition to their performance at the grand final.
