GCON, the organisers behind regular online Gears of War 2 events, had previously announced that it was to add tournament events to the regular community events that were part-and-parcel of Season 1. Unfortunately, the first tournament and future tournaments, will not be held due to "various outside issues". On the bright side, a teaser was released on Twitter which states that "GCON will be making three big announcements" this week. Keep an eye on Twitter and the GCON forums for more detail. GCON was previously an acronym for 'Gears Community Organized Nights' but with the announcement of Season 2, some changes are being made. GCON now stands for 'Gears Community Organized Network' with the casual community nights taking the name 'GCON Community Nights'. The first of these events will take place on April 17th and marks the beginning of the second season. Gears of War 2 remains the focal point of the season. The event in question has not yet been announced but after Season One's 'Clash of communities' and 'Game with Developers' events, the announcement is eagerly anticipated. Veterns of Season 1 are advised that changes have been made to the structure of the Season. The season will run over eight events and standard style lobbies will be offered for most nights. Archives of past events and information related to the first season can be found here. While the GCON community nights are a casual affair without any real competition, Season 2 also brings the announcement of the first GCON tournament. Interested players are invited to vote for the gametype here. On the night of the tournament, a variety of lobbies will be running for people to warm up or just play a few games. Teams of four are invited to join the tournament which will be held on April 10th. The voting period for the gametype will close on March 25th. In addition to these developments, the GCON team is working on a fully fledged website along with more community related features such as a podcast. Links: Source: GCON Season 1 Archives: GCON

The eagerly anticipated clash of Counter-Strike 1.6 giants, fnatic, and the best Counter-Strike Source squad, Reason Gaming, has been postponed. Initially, there were problems with the QuadV stream as "the encoding computer died a painful death" which resulted in the match being delayed. The match did eventually get underway, albeit without coverage initially. However, once the match got underway, the server crashed multiple times and it has been decided that the match will be rescheduled. The Verygames server came under DDOS attack which resulted in server crashes and led to the postponement of the match. fnatic had been leading 15:9 on de_nuke when it was eventually decided to continue the match at a later point in time. The VOD from the first map will be made available soon. Attempts will also be made to have the match replayed. Statement from TosspoT (QuadV): "Just a word from us at QuadV on tonights problems. Firstly we're very sorry that we couldnt bring you the match as planned, we were live onair and ready to rock when about 15 minutes before the match started the encoding computer died a painful death. Unfortunately its a £1500ish macbook pro which I dont have another one of lieing around to take its place, so it killed our hopes of streaming tonight, sorry!" Source: Cadred

The battle of two Counter-Strike giants from different disciplines was proposed originally on Cadred in February. It has been confirmed that this CSPromod showmatch between fnaticMSI and Reason Gaming will take place. The match is scheduled to take place on March 21st at 19:00 GMT and will be covered by QuadV. The Counter-Strike 1.6 team of fnatic will face the Counter-Strike: Source squad of Reason Gaming in a best-of-three battle with CSPromod being used as the game. This is the best way to analyse if CSPromod can accomplish it's goal of uniting two very different communities. The developers of CSPromod will also be tuning in to see how the match unfolds and will be taking on feedback to ensure that the next edition of the mod moves in the way in which the community wants it to. Patrik 'cArn' Sattermon (fnatic CS1.6): "We are really looking forward to be a part of the first streamed CSP match”. “It’s going to be a battle between two giants from two different games. At this stage we don’t know if CSP going to be the title which unites 1.6 and Source but this match will hopefully put the spotlight on CSPromod which has been evolving loads of late. Make sure you tune in on QuadV and may the best team win!"
Marek ‘.PhP’ Kádek (Reason Gaming CSS): “We are looking forward to play mighty fnatic in game which probably favours them little bit by having 1.6 recoil and maps, but I hope we can give them a fight and keep the game exciting.” Links: Source: Cadred CSPromod: Download Coverage: QuadV Original Proposal: Cadred
